Taking their sight, making them blind
I put up my hand saying ‘Stop right there!’

His face oddly contorted, stumped
Unh, I can’t believe your prescription hasn’t gotten worse.
I smile inside. “I won’t accept the curse.”

No disease can be made manifest
No sickness can live in me
Accept no fear. That is the key.

I breath Zen and release strife

Days, weeks, years; It wasn’t all for naught
I finally figured it out: I finally came to see
What makes you weak. What makes you hate me.

I studied the Bible looking for answers
It introduced me to personalities reminiscent of cancers
Now when I meet these people in my life I recognize
Their conniving, cunning, illness and lies.

My second family with its ties to eastern Europe
With their undressed way to look at life, never sweetened with syrup
I ran to them just to help me remember
There are people in this world who want me to do well; no matter my color; no matter my gender

It almost got me, it almost made me racist
I thought I’d never trust again any white faces
Then my grandson was born the color of milk & honey
So eager to learn and love, with a disposition so sunny.
